Should I Start an In-Home Daycare

I've been toying around with the idea of starting a home daycare. Back in the day I worked in a daycare and as a nanny. I was going to school for Early Childhood Education. That all changed because I listened to other people tell me that I wouldn't make enough money, blah...blah...blah. I've stopped listening to other people's opinions as much. Especially when they are just being judgmental and not really trying to help me. I love kids and I think that I'm good with them. I hate the idea of working outside the home but things like doing telemarketing does not sound like fun. Tim was against it at first but now he just wants me to be happy. Is it a good idea? Getting a normal out of house job would be easier but even that is very hard right now. I am having such a problem finding a job over here and I'm having a really hard time staying at my old job. I don't like working in an office with all the office politics and I don't like the commute! I don't know, I'll have to think about all of this and make sure that I can really afford it. I also want to make sure that this is the best option for my family. Let me know if any of you have any experience with this or any advice. I would really appreciate it.

  1. Thanks for stopping by my blog!

I don't have any experience with a daycare, but I did take on one child for one school year. It's not for me, though some people really love it. I found I felt too limited in what I could do with my own children. If I didn't have my daycare child's carseat, I couldn't go anywhere, and our schedule was dictated by her nap schedule, which was different than my son's.

If you don't mind losing the flexibility of your day, daycare may be a good option. It just wasn't for me.

Best wishes on becoming a stay at home mom. If I can do it, anyone can!

  2. Thanks for your advice! I enjoyed visiting your blog! My stepkids are not actually with us fulltime right now so I would only have them on the weekends. Tim actually does not want me to do this once we have our own kids because he feels that I would not be able to devote my whole self to our kids. Also, the lack of flexibility. Thanks for your advice again!

  4. Thank you for your comment. I really love working with children, I am just afraid of leaving my fulltime job. I feel like I may not make enough money or might not find children. We are in a hard situation because Tim pays child support so I bring in more money towards our household. We'll see. Thanks again for the advice!
